Ballet Under The Stars

The Australian Ballet comes to Lardner Park

The Australian Ballet’s free annual outdoor community program, Ballet Under The Stars, is coming to regional Victoria for the first time in October 2019 and will be exclusively staged at Lardner Park in Gippsland.

Minister for Tourism and Major Events John Eren was joined by The Australian Ballet’s Artistic Director David McAllister and Executive Director Libby Christie at Lardner Park to make the announcement where thousands of people are expected to flock for the free performance.

Ballet Under the Stars has become a highlight in The Australian Ballet’s annual performance calendar and gives new audiences a rare opportunity to enjoy a world class, high-quality arts experience.

The free family-friendly program was first launched in Melbourne, the home of The Australian Ballet, in 1966 and has since grown into a proud tradition performing in Sydney, Brisbane, Darwin and Canberra.

The event, which was last presented in Melbourne in 2014, is expected to draw ballet fans from Victoria and beyond, catering for seasoned ballet aficionados, but also new audiences who otherwise may not have the opportunity, means or access to attend ballet in a traditional theatre setting.

The program is proudly being supported by the Victorian Government’s $20 million Regional Events Fund which helps regional communities to attract and stage major events which drive visitation and boost the economy.

Lardner Park Chief Executive Officer Nicola Pero said that securing an event of this calibre was just amazing and a huge win for the Gippsland region.  “It’s a wonderful opportunity for everyone to experience ballet and the arts, and what a spectacular setting to do so, at picturesque Lardner Park”.

Ballet Under The Stars will take place at Lardner Park in October 2019.
